Symposium
The Symposium for “New Media and the Informed Citizen” was held in Brisbane on Friday the 24th July 2009. The venue was provided by Griffith University at the Ian Hanger Recital Hall, Queensland Conservatorium of Music, South Bank. Guests from Malaysia and Australia shared their professional and personal experiences as contributors to the new media environment.
The guest speakers for the symposium were:
- Steven Gan, founder and editor-in-chief of Malaysiakini, Malaysia’s premiere online news resource
- R. Nadeswaran (“Citizen Nades”), prominent blogger and investigative journalist for The Sun newspaper
- Graham Young, founder and contributor to Online Opinion and former Vice President of the Liberal Party in Queensland
- Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, former General Manager of Bernama Media, Board Member of Berjaya Media
- Mohd Zulkifli, General Manager Alt Media, the new media arm of Media Prima Berhad
The symposium was a free event, made possible by funding from the Australia-Malaysia Institute.
