Biography:
From humble beginnings as the son of rice farmers in Kedah, Datuk A. Kadir Jasin has enjoyed an illustrious and celebrated career in journalism and media. After studying journalism in New Zeland on a Colombo Plan scholarship in 1971, he was sent to the Berlin International Institute of Journalism to study a course in Advanced Journalism in 1977.
His career includes serving as journalist, editor, editor-in-chief and group editor for Bernama, the New Straits Times, Berita Harian, The New Sunday Times, Business Times, The Malay Mail, and The Sunday Mail. Over the span of his career, he has received a numerous awards and letters of appreciation from within as well as from outside the country, including Editor of the Year for Asia from Mitsubishi Press Foundation, 1978, a Datukship in 1995, and an 'Honorary Doctorate of Letters' from Science University of Malaysia (USM) in 1988. He was eventually appointed as the Chairman of BERNAMA (National Press Organisation of Malaysia), where he first started his career in journalism.
Datuk Kadir Jasin is currently the Editor-in-Chief of magazine publishing company, Berita Publishing Sdn Bhd. He writes a fortnightly column “Other Thots” in the Malaysian Business magazine and is a prominent blogger (The Scribe). He has also written many books in both Malay and English, including "Biar Putih Tulang" (1998), "Other Thots – Opinions & Observations 1992-2001" (2001), "The Wings of an Eagle" (2003), "Mencari Dugalia Huso" (2006), "Damned That Thots" (2006), "Blogger" (2006), "PRU 2008-Rakyat Sahut Cabaran" (2008), "Komedi & Tragedi-Latest in Contemporary Malaysian Politics" (2009) and "Membangun Bangsa dengan Pena" (2009).
